Just had a message from my friend Richard Axford who told me the really sad news that Richard Burns passed away tonight
God be with you Burnsie,
Richard also told me the story of Richard Burns/Robert reid retiring from Rally Gb in 2003, , Richard Axford and his son james [at the time 7 yrs old and wearing a Subaru shirt and fleece] went into the bar of the Cardiff Hilton, who was in there but Richard Burns/Robert Reid.
Richard came and had a chat with young James, unfortunately there were no souvenirs about so Richard Burns did no more than unzip overalls, take his tshirt off , autograph it and present it to James. Fantastic Story, Fantastic Bloke, RIP Richard
Memorial service for Burns
A public memorial service to celebrate the life of 2001 world champion Richard Burns will be held in London later this month. Burns died from a brain tumour at the age of 34 on November 25 and a small private funeral for family and friends will take place next week.
The public memorial service will be held at St Luke's Church, Sydney Street, London at 11am on Thursday December 22.
Burns' family and partner Zoe Keen have also thanked the friends and fans who have left messages on his personal website - almost 16,000 tributes have already been entered in the special memorials section of the site.
